what i ate wednesday is hosted by jenn at peas and crayons. if you have a chance, go check out the other bloggers in the link party for some foodie-themed goodness.
this week, i want to share my favorites.
favorite breakfast
i just rediscovered my love for fitnessista. i mentioned this before — my very favorite blogs end up being on rotation. i’ll go a few weeks with a certain handful at the top of my list, and then i’ll remember another handful, and spend more time with them. so fitnessista, i’ve missed you. and your simple, protein-filled breakfast ideas.
i tried out the “breakfast cookie.” really, it’s just a much denser, less liquid-filled version of overnight oats.
and it was amazing. into my bowl went:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/2 scoop vanilla sun warrior protein powder
- pinch of salt
- 1 tbsp maple almond butter
stirred it up until it was in big pieces…
… then added:
- 1/4 cup milk
- dash of vanilla
- very large sprinkle of cocoa powder [probably 1-2 tsp]
- 1/2 banana, mashed
again, i prepped it in the morning, when i should have been getting ready for work, and by breakfast-time it was delightful.
gina suggests all sorts of add-ins, but i wanted to try it basic the first time around. and then it looked too basic, so i added the cocoa. it was soooo good. and intense on the cocoa flavor.
favorite dinner
i haven’t made too many dinners recently, but my favorites have been semi-handmade pizza. this past week, it was tempeh, pineapple, cheddar pizza with sautéed kale.
favorite lunch
and then there was my favorite lunch. i played no parts in making it. but i did get a little tipsy and enjoy it to its fullest.
my college roommate threw herself a birthday party on saturday, and on the way, i got EP to stop off in princeton. i can’t wait to take a day trip or two when it’s a little cooler outside to spend time walking around.
this trip had just one purpose: triumph brewing company. they have other locations in new hope and philly. so far, i love 2 out of 3.
each location has a different menu, but i’ve had a perfect bar food option each time. this one was the “mushroom burger,” after checking that it was mushroom-in-lieu-of-burger, instead of mushroom+burger.
EP checked in. i think it was as a joke…
and then it was lunchtime. :-)
then:
i climbed a tree.
i did not get far, and i didn’t really climb so much as hop up and then wiggle 3 feet down a branch. but this is the first time i have set foot/tushie on a tree in all my years, and it felt a little bit thrilling.
the camera was perched on a twig while EP acted as my undivided spotter, so the photos don’t actually show me. but oh, i was there.
complete with celebratory cider.

oh wow, your meal looks so tasty!
:-D bar food at its classiest.
What fun!! That drink looks incredible! Was it a mojito? Mushroom burger…yum…with or without the burger part!
it was! a blueberry mojito. and I remember thinking, “wow, this isn’t as delicious as the one I made.” finally a successful homemade cocktail!
That drink looks so yummy, overnight oats are a breakfast staple for me, and that burger looks gorgeous! So much winning!
hahaha! it really was a winning sort of day.
Such a cute picture of you. I’ve seen the cookie recipe but have never made it because I prefer to eat my breakfast with a spoon, it just seems more filling that way. And I always add liquid egg whites to my oats for protein, satiety, and volume.
It has been ages since I climbed a tree. I must add that to my “to do” list! ; )
